The South Caucasus Network of Human
Rights Defenders is deeply concerned about the amendments to the Law on
Rallies, Law on Police and Law on Administrative Offences adopted by
the Parliament of Georgia on July 17, 2009 on the extraordinary
session.
The Network considers that these amendments unjustifiably restrict human rights and fundamental freedoms, in particular freedom of assembly and expression, and further undermine democracy in Georgia.
The Network considers that these amendments unjustifiably restrict human rights and fundamental freedoms, in particular freedom of assembly and expression, and further undermine democracy in Georgia.
The South Caucasus Network of Human
Rights Defenders calls upon the President of Georgia to veto the law
according to his power under the Constitution and thus prevent further
erosion of democracy and human rights in Georgia. See Attachment
